About these terms

These terms of use are the agreement between you and Pieter Van Oost, trading as P-IT, a natural-person enterprise and the publisher of Manillen (‘we’), when you use the Manillen app or its online service. The app is listed on the App Store under the name Pieter Van Oost. By using Manillen, you agree to them.

Apple’s terms for App Store apps also apply, including the standard end user licence agreement. How we handle your data is explained in our privacy policy.

Who can play

Manillen is intended for teens and adults aged 13 and over. An account and online play are intended for players aged 13 and over. If you are younger than 13, you can still play solo and practise: without an account, without internet and without ads.

For advertising, the app asks for your age group, not your date of birth. That is not an official age check. Anyone who chooses ‘Younger than 13’ gets no ads. You can read more in the privacy policy.

Your account

• You create an account with Sign in with Apple or with an email address and password. There are no accounts without a way to recover them, such as guest accounts.
• Choose a display name that doesn’t offend anyone and doesn’t pretend to be someone else. Other players see that name.
• Keep your sign-in details to yourself. If you think someone else has access, recover your password and choose ‘Sign out on all devices’.
• Linking an Apple sign-in to an existing account never merges two accounts and doesn’t move purchases.
• You can always delete your account yourself under Profile › Delete account. What happens then is described in the privacy policy.

Earlier versions of Manillen

This version of Manillen starts with new game accounts. Accounts, coin balances, friends and history from earlier versions of the app are not transferred.

New game accounts do not erase any rights from earlier App Store purchases. Use Profile › Restore Purchases to have Apple-confirmed purchases checked. Access can only be restored once the original product and its mapping to current gameplay options have been confirmed. Consumable coin packs already delivered are not granted again. If you paid for something that never arrived, contact us with your receipt; do not pay again for a right you already hold.

Fair play

In online matches, Manillen’s server validates moves and records scores and coins; the app can’t grant coins or wins by itself. Computer players are always labelled as computer. They use their own hand and public table information, not your hidden cards.

You may not:

• cheat, or make arrangements with opponents to influence a result;
• use multiple accounts to give yourself or someone else an advantage;
• deliberately exploit faults in the game or service instead of reporting them;
• use software that plays for you, or attack, overload or try to break into the service;
• copy, sell or rent out the app or the service.

Online matches

• Each decision has a fixed time limit, currently 60 seconds. It keeps running if your connection drops. If it runs out, the server makes a valid choice for you: it passes on meegaan or redoubling, picks a valid trump when you choose trump, and plays a valid card when it’s your turn to play.
• If your connection drops, the app restores the connection and the table. A lost reply doesn’t mean your move failed: the app checks the outcome first.
• If you leave a table, a clearly labelled computer player takes your seat. You can take your seat back at the next safe moment; what the computer already played stands.
• If a match’s history can’t be recovered after a fault, the match is interrupted, not silently rolled back.
• For leaderboards, a win only counts in a finished online match with four different players, with no computer turns and nobody leaving.

Messages and conduct

Treat other players with respect. In messages, group names and display names, the following is not allowed: bullying, intimidation, hateful or discriminatory language, threats, sexual content, spam, scams and sharing other people’s personal data.

You can block players, mute conversations and report messages or players. Reports are reviewed by moderation. In case of abuse we can remove messages and restrict access to messaging or online play, temporarily or permanently.

Coins

Manillen has regular coins and personal coins. Coins are units within the game, not a euro balance or bank account. You can use them within Manillen for the features the app offers; they are not paid out as money.

Which tables cost or pay out coins is always shown in advance, in a quote you accept. Without a quote approved by the server, nothing is reserved or charged.

Personal coins

• You earn a personal coin by choosing to watch a whole rewarded video after a finished match: one coin per video, only after our server has received and checked the confirmation.
• Personal coins are yours alone. You use them for your own table entries and your own gameplay unlocks.
• You can’t gift, transfer, sell or stake them in a competition.
• If personal coins pay for all or part of your table entry, the fixed rewards that table pays you also arrive as personal coins, win or lose. Other players’ rewards are not affected.
• For an entry, the service uses your personal coins first, then your regular coins.

Regular coins

You receive regular coins as a fixed reward at a table you paid for with regular coins, or buy them in a coin pack when the App Store offers one. Only regular coins can be gifted, and only as described under Competitions and gifts.

Your balance

Your balance comes from our server, not from the app. We can correct a demonstrable error in your balance, for example one caused by a fault. If you delete your account, you can no longer use the coins on that account.

Purchases through Apple

• If Manillen offers something for sale, such as coin packs, gameplay unlocks or ‘No ads’, you buy it on the App Store. Apple shows the price and terms before you confirm, and processes the payment.
• You request refunds from Apple, at reportaproblem.apple.com. If Apple tells us a purchase was refunded or revoked, the affected benefits are no longer active.
• You can only take out a membership once the app shows its terms. You manage or cancel a subscription with Apple; deleting your Manillen account doesn’t cancel it.
• If a purchase was paid for but not yet delivered, don’t buy it again. Keep your purchase reference and contact us.
• Purchases belong to the account you made them with. Switching accounts or uploading a receipt doesn’t move purchases.
• Your statutory consumer rights always apply.

Advertising

• Manillen may show an ad from Google after a finished match. Never during a game, while your connection is being restored or while you wait for players.
• With ‘No ads’ you no longer see ads you didn’t choose yourself. You can still choose to watch rewarded videos.
• A reward is only added after our server has received and checked the confirmation. We can’t grant a coin for a video that wasn’t fully watched or wasn’t confirmed.
• Anyone who chooses ‘Younger than 13’ or ‘I’d rather not say’, or hasn’t chosen an age group yet, gets no ads.

Competitions and gifts

Some features have their own rules, on top of these terms:

• Competitions with a stake, where players stake regular coins into a shared pot, require approved rules for entry, fees, settlement and disputes.
• Gifting coins to a friend requires a quote with the exact fee, which the service checks again just before the transfer.

Availability and changes to the game

We do our best to keep the online service working well, but maintenance, faults and connection problems can happen. Solo play and practice always work, even without internet.

We may improve Manillen and change or discontinue features. If we stop the online service, we will announce it in the app in advance.

Liability

We make Manillen with care, but can’t promise it will always work without errors or interruptions. If there is a demonstrable error, we check the available gameplay and purchase records; an unknown outcome is not automatically a failure or a completed delivery. Your statutory consumer rights remain unaffected.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we show the new date at the top. We announce important changes in the app in advance. If you keep playing after that, the new terms apply. If you don’t agree, you can always delete your account.

Applicable law and disputes

These terms are governed by Belgian law. If you live in another country, you keep the protection of that country’s mandatory rules.

If you have a complaint, please email us first so we can look for a solution together. If that doesn’t work, you can turn to the Belgian Consumer Ombudsman Service or the competent court.
